| She looked away for what she didn't know because she couldn't tell what he was feeling behind the shadows covering his eyes. He pulled the glasses off and turned her gaze to his."Look Cindy. I know we didn't get off on the right foot but I'd like to make things right. I felt something that night I didn't know quite how to deal with so I dealt with it the only way I knew how; I pushed it away. In the end, I know I made a huge mistake by doing it." "And you're telling me this because?" "Because I want us to have something more than just that one night." "Knowing that Susan is Nick's? How's he feel about that?" "I'm not sure but I'm the one out here. At least accept my apology for the way I treated you." "Give me one good reason why I should." "I can't. I can only hope that you will someday." Nick cleared his throat behind the two. "Think about it,"he took her hand and lightly kissed it before leaving her with Nick. "Hi," she softly uttered. "I really don't know where to start." "Not an easy subject to approach." "She's very beautiful,"he complimented as he handed the portrait back over to her. "Sure you don't want to keep that?"she held it back toward him. "I can't keep something I know I'll never be able to touch or be a part of." "You wanna know how many years I thought that about you?" He smiled."You are something else you know that?" "Me?" "Yes you. I didn't think you'd even speak to me." "You didn't treat me the way he did." "Age isn't a bad guy. He just has a funny way of showing his feelings." "I'll remember that and as far as Susan's concerned, would you like to meet her?" "I don't know. This is all still kinda sinking in ." "I understand but if you wanna see her before you leave, just ask Grace for my number. Tell her I said it was okay. She's still a little iffy with the whole situation herself." "But what if I want to see her after that?" "I won't shut you out of her life but I don't want her to have a part time daddy either." "Fair enough." "Here I have an idea,"she searched her purse for a pen finally landing upon one. She scribbled her number on the back of the picture."There you go. When you decide you're ready to see her, give me a call." "You're sure about that?" "If you're never ready then that's your prerogitave but I'd like to think you're a bigger man than your friend there." "The guy really does get a bad rap. He really has a good heart underneath all that roughness." "If he ever finds it then maybe I'll consider talking to him." "What you got against him anyway?" |
| "I don't like him." "I see. Well listen, I'm gonna go back in before they start searching the place for me and thank you for the picture. I'm sure I'll be in touch. How could I stay away from such a face?" |
