| She was working on her project when the phone rang that afternoon a week later."Hey girl! How's my partner in crime?"Liz inquired cheerfully. "I missed you." "I've missed you too. You were the only company I had most times out there on the road." "What about Kris and Leigh?" "They're not as much fun as you are. You're willing to flex a little. So tell me, how's the journey been?" "I've had a lot of time to find me." "And did you?" "The only thing I found that I was miserable without all of you. I hate to admit it but you were right. I had to leave it all behind to find out that all I needed was right there in front of me." "That isn't quite what I came back with but if it works for you." "So whatcha been up to?" "I've been working on a little something. I used to love to write but it didn't pay the bills so that's why I got into the industry itself. I figure if I couldn't do it at least I could enjoy it." "So what are you writing about?" "A love story." "The latest one?" "If you must know yes but I'll kill you if you tell anybody." "I won't but I can't wait for the outcome of it myself." "Funny. I think you know where this one is gonna lead." "You had two men falling all over themselves because of you. How many women can say that?" "I don't want that." "Sweetheart, you can't help it. You are a beautiful intelligent woman. You are every man's dream." "You're just saying that to make me feel better." "I'm saying it because it's true. I'm confident enough in myself to tell you that. If I were any other woman, I'd be giving you the evil eye too. Tell me something though." "What?" "Are you gonna add that little evening of ours?" "There are some things better left unsaid." "You're a great friend you know that." "Speaking of friends." "Nick is well... he's doing okay I guess but Howie's a wreck." "I heard Nick was too." "They both miss you but we're about to put Howie in a looney bin. He does love you. How many times do you have to hear that?" "I need to hear it from him." "You will." The doorbell interrupted their conversation."Listen Liz, there's someone at the door. We'll have to get together and do lunch or something sometime okay?" "Sounds good. It's good to have you back girl,"Liz said. "Good to be back. Bye,"she clicked her cordless off as she opened the door to find Nick on the other side. "Come in." She stepped aside and he stepped in. |
| Silently he joined her in the living room."This is a little weird,"Nick offered after they'd sat in silence for a good five minutes. "I don't know what to say Nick without it not hurting you." "Tam. I've known it all along. I was just trying to avoid the fact that it's him you've always been in love with. It was just a lot of wishful thinking on my part. He and I repaired things. I hope we can." "You know Nick. I think we can. It may take a little time though." "So whatcha been up to lately?" "I took some time off from work." "I thought you were gonna work?" "I thought so but all I could think about was all the good times I shared with all of you. I left it all behind only to find it was everything I needed." "You ever thought of writing?" She giggled. "What?" "Yeah I have. I've started writing a love story called Candlelight&Roses." "A Harlequin romance." "Better." "How does it end?" "I don't know. That's kinda up to Howie." "Well listen, I did stop by for more than just this. I'm having a little get together tomorrow night." "You couldn't have called me for that?" "I wanted to see you. It's been way too long. Also, I met somebody. I think you're gonna like her too." "If she chose you, I already do." "You are a good friend you know that?" "I do try. So is he gonna be there?" "I don't know. I invited him." "Well I'll be there. I wanna meet this girl." "It's good to have you back Tam. It really is." "It's good to be back. See ya tomorrow night." |
