Chapter 13
"Are you ready Ter?"Sherl peaked through the adjoining door that same evening. "As I'm ever gonna be. " Sherl came in the room as Terri straightened the hem on her skirt."You look wonderful. You're beautiful and he's an asshole for cheating on his girlfriend. You've got it all girl. You don't know how truly beautiful and talented you are. Don't let him defeat you." "You always know how to make me feel better you know that?"she tooked Sherl's hands which were resting comfortably upon her shoulders. "I try,"she shrugged. "So what ended up happening with 'Nes?" "You didn't hear? She's not getting a divorce." "She's not?"Terri turned in disbelief. "You're surprised?" "I guess not so much. So are we about ready?" "Yes we are,"Kristy bounced into Terri's room with Shannon. "You know you should really be more careful Sherl. Your door was wide open." "I know. I just came in to check on Terri." "You look gorgeous,"Kristy complimented. "Thank you. You don't look so bad yourself. Shall we?"Terri offered as she rested on the door handle awaiting the rest of them. "You're in a hurry for somebody who really doesn't wanna go,"Shannon commented. "I just wanna get it overwith. Let's go,"she rushed them.
An hour and a half later the girls were giggling backstage as Terri nervously paced. Sherl noted her friend's anxiety."It's gonna be okay,"Sherl reassured her just as Kevin came into view with none other than his girlfriend. Terri's heart sank. She knew she had to get past this. She knew she could. "Be strong,"Sherl urged softly in her ear as the rest of them came bundling around the corner. "I'm glad to see you came,"Brian smiled as he made the introductions. The girls just lined the wall as they watched Terri greet each one. "You know. I don't think I can do this." "You have a captive audience here Terri. You'll be just fine,"Brian offered. "I don't know,"her eyes darted briefly toward Kevin. "I'd hate to think I made a mistake." "I think you did,"Kevin tore himself away long enough to comment. Terri glared at him and then defied him."I'd love to do it. You want me to sing the song I was singing in the elevator?" "Whatever you want,"he offered. She started with an accapella version of Back To Your Heart and stunned Kevin once again. She finished up as the applause could be hear for miles around in the concourses. She was weakening under his discretion as his girlfriend noticed his distraction. "Wow!"Nick offered shooting a lopsided grin in the direction of Kristy and Shannon. "I stand corrected,"Kevin stated. "So?"Brian inquired. "So what?"Terri returned. "I think we all agree that you would be a great asset to add to our label." "Thank you for the offer but I believe I'm going to have to pass." Sherl nudged her. "What?"she turned to her. "I don't wanna do this Sherl. It's not what I want from my life. I love singing but I don't love it enough to put my life under a constant microscope." "I had to try,"Brian interjected. "If you'll excuse me, I'd like to leave now." "That's a great idea,"Kevin supported as she turned. She turned back to him."You have some nerve Mr. Richardson,"she addressed him formally."You might want to talk to your girlfriend about that little problem of yours?" "And what might that be?" "Your lack of self control." "What's she talking about Kev?"Kristen innocently inquired. "Think about it honey. He can't keep it in his pants. Now if you'll excuse me, I'd like to go." "Sure,"Brian escorted the group toward the vehicle that brought them in. "I don't know what happened between you and Kevin but "It's better that you don't,"Terri interrupted."That way you don't have to get involved in it." "He's family. I'll be involved eventually." "I'm sorry." "Not your fault. I hope you find happiness in whatever you do on down the line,"Brian offered as she and the others entered the limousine. If he only knew.
