Chapter 2
So youve got his attention Bev.  Keep it.Are they really that bad?
He sighed slightly. Not all the time but  they can be overbearing.
Gotcha.  Sounds like youre the real family man of the bunch.
Well Howie can top me there but
No, Im talking about a family of your own. She interrupted.
He looked at her; puzzled by her constant interruption.
She realized what she had done and bashfully apologized. I do it so much I dont realize when I am.  She started swirling the straw in her drink.
Nervous?
More than he should know about.   She was sitting next to a man shed been fantasizing about since she couldnt remember.  She was married yes but she wasnt dead either.   His beautiful blue eyes awaiting her answer.A little.
You were doing fine just a few minutes ago.
Because it hadnt hit
Hit you who you were talking to,he interrupted.
Hey now.  Don't you  be picking up my bad habits." She playfully smacked his arm before she had realized what she had done."Sorry."
Why was he feeling so guilty about carrying on a conversation with a fan?  He knew why.  Because he was married and she was married and the last few thoughts he had weren't something you consider after taking those vows.  She had that same look in her eyes as well.
This is ridiculous she thought.  We're adults.  We can carry on a conversation without it leading to anything more.  So she could make those impure thoughts disappear, she cleared the uncomfortable silence that had settled between them."So about your family."
Thank goodness!  Something he could ramble on about for eons."Shall I whip out the pictures first or whine some more about how I don't get to spend  Christmas with them?"
"Pictures please."
"Your girls are adorable!"She said as she admired the many pictures of them.   They donned santa dresses for one of the portraits."Oh that's so sweet.  And your little boy.  He looks just like you."
"So everbody says."
"What's so wrong with that?"
"Have you looked at me?"
"Yeah I have."  Realizing her slip, she bit her lower lip and looked down at the tabletop they had found themselves at .  She knew she was blushing.  She could feel it's warmth  all over her face.
His hand slid over hers and he leaned  in to whisper in her ear."Thank you ."
Oh damn! this wasn't good.  She was feeling warm again but the fire had spread further.   His breath had touched her skin and his lips were starting to feel even closer.   Her eyes were sealed shut at that point  but he soon found a way to open them.
"We could leave the bar y'know."
Disbelief was her reaction at first but they were both married and she was acting no better than was he.
He wasn 't sure what  he was doing but he was lonely for the warmth of a woman.  Something the circle of his hand couldn't compete with.  He kept trying to remind himself that he was married but everytime she looked at him, he couldn't.
She finally found the courage to look him in the eye. That was a mistake.  He wasn't disguising what he wanted very well.  Then again, she was finding it hard to disguise what she was desiring at the moment."Tempting."
She was mere inches away from his lips.  He could just kiss her now.  Then again, he could pull his head out of his ass.  Anybody could walk in here.  Just because the city was shut down , it didn't mean that one of his friends would come back downstairs."Tempting enough to say yes?"
His lips were there.  His breath on hers.  NO! this was wrong her conscience screamed."What about your wife?"
"What about your husband?"
They were SO close then Bam!  saved by the ringtones.  Yes.  Ringtones.  It was as if the fates were saving them.
"You gonna get yours?"
"Yeah.  Might be that husband guy. " She fumbled for the phone and tore her eyes away from his long enough to find out the identity of her savior.  Thank God!  It was Alan."Gotta take this."  She got up from the table and flipped her phone open."Hey honey."
He found his phone but hadn't reached it in time.  Finding it was the wife, he dialed home.
"Hey baby.  Sorry I missed you.  I was just taking care of business and couldn't get to the phone in time,"He lied. He'd never lied to her in his life. Then again, he'd never had a reason as beautiful as...oh hell! he didn't even know her name.  At least he couldn't remember it if she'd said it.  All he knew is she was concentrating on him as much as he was on her; neither really consumed with their significant others considerate enough to think of them on this holiday of all holidays.    After about five minutes of them trying to avoid each  other across the room, he saw her disconnect.
She knew it was inevitable but she couldn't deny the attraction between them.  She snatched her purse off the table and headed out of the bar toward the elevators.  He was  following close behind.  That she was sure of.  Whether or not he ended his conversation, she didn't know.  She didn't want to look back.  Looking back would be acknowledging the fact that she wanted his companionship.  The kind neither of them should be having.
