That same evening after he'd slept a little more of his alcohol off, he wandered out into the kitchen to find Melissa fixing a meal for one.  He solemnly approached her."Hey baby."
She mustered up her strength and turned to face him."What do you want?"
"I am so sorry about last night.  I promise it won't happen again."
"You say the same thing every time Howard.  I just don't have the strength anymore."
"But honey,"he reached for her hand and she violently jerked to miss his touch.  She couldn't remember the last time he'd actually wanted to touch her and actually make her feel whole.
"You don't ever wanna touch me anymore.   Have I grown that undesirable since I became what is supposed to be a matronly figure.  Hell, we don't even have children and you treat me like I've put on weight from three kids.  I actually felt comfort when I kissed Nick last night.  You know how long it's been since you kissed me that way? Do you?!"She demanded and before he could get another word in edgewise she continued her tyrade,"I'll tell you when.  The last time you made me feel that way was six months ago to this day.  I wander aimlessly day by day through this lie called a marriage and I have to lie to your Mother when she calls here and asks how you are."
"So this is what last night was all about."
"No. This has been going on for far too long and it's stopping right here and now,"she threw her plate into the kitchen sink; hunger no longer  a part of what she was craving.
She rushed into the bedroom and grabbed a suitcase.
"What are you doing?"he followed her in shortly thereafter.
"I'm leaving."
"Come on Melissa.  Can't we talk about this?"
"What's there to discuss?   You have a problem and I can't watch you do it anymore.   I was foolish enough to believe that maybe  you were just going through some sort of phase but I guess I was the only fool in this game,"she shoved the last object she'd be needing in her suitcase and started toward the front of the house.
"Don't you leave here now!  You leave now and you can kiss all this goodbye,"he issued a weakened warning.
"What is it that I'm leaving?"she turned in the doorway eyes full of tears and then rapidly made a path to her car.
He watched as the wheels screeched down the long path. She was really gone this time.
