"What kind of question is that?"she responded. "That's one I'd like answered myself,"AJ shot up from what she assumed had been a deep sleep. "Of course I love him. I stayed with him the entire time until the doctors kicked me out. If he died, a part of me would have died with him; a part I'm not willing to give up any time soon." "What's going on?"Polly stumbled out of her disturbed slumber. "AJ seems to have a problem with Kara here. We just don't know what it is,"Brian glared toward AJ. "And you won't either,"he returned defiantly. "Look you,"she directed her attention toward AJ."I don't know what it is you've got against this woman but she loves my little brother and no matter what happened between them, they still love each other very much. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out,"she defended Kara knowing Kara was not readily able to fight her own battles right now."So whatever hair you've got up your ass little boy, I suggest you yank it out and make nice with her for the sake of your friend. I don't know what happened with you two but it can't be as bad as what happened to Howie yesterday." The remaining three were disturbed out of their slumber by Polly's sudden outburst. They asked no questions of her tyrade and noticed Kara's jaw dropped in awe. Nobody ever stood up for her like that. Nobody ever had a reason to before she reasoned with herself. AJ shrunk back into his chair and stayed there as they approached Kara for good news. Polly turned to her and looked."Well?" "He's conscious. He talked to me a little bit before the doctors took over. I'm sure they'll let us know when we can see him again. Somebody wanna get some coffee with me?" "I'll go,"Kevin offered. They sat silently sipping their beverages when he spoke up,"Something on your mind?" "How did I get involved with this group?" "You fall in love with one of us, you get the whole package,"he lightened. She looked into those kaliedscope eyes that blew her mind over three years ago."After all I've done, who'd have thought I'd end up here?" "Kara,"he took her hand."You don't know how lucky you are to have his love. He doesn't offer it freely. None of us are angels Kara. You just did what you thought was right for you at that time in your life. You just found Howie was important enough to give it up. I won't say there won't be some disappointed bachelors out there but they'll get over it." |
| "So how's Kristin?" "She's doing just fine but I miss her like you would not believe. She did ask about you though." "She did?" "Kara, nobody has to know about what you did, only what you're doing now. If you want anybody to know in the future about your past, you'll let them know. We all know and sure we were upset when he first brought you to meet us but we figured you can't be all that bad if he loves you. He was right. I can't believe that you think any of this matters now." "I know. I just know AJ though. What if he says anything?" "There's something you're not telling us about AJ isn't there?" She bowed her head and then looked back."Yes." "Would you like to elaborate on that one?" "Not at this time. There's enough going on without the hassles of that one right now." "Do you ever wonder how your life would have been different had you not met him?" "I can't imagine life without him now." "That's all that matters then." "I need to check in with Kristy. She still has my phone and the business and "Calm down Kara. We'll call Kristy and see if you've had any problems at the office and you can stay here with Howie when they'll let us see him. Everything'll be fine." Brian interrupted."They're gonna let us see him now. You two done with your little heart to heart?" "Actually we were planning a little getaway Bri. Don't tell anybody,"Kevin toyed. Kara cracked up as Brian's expression went blank. "Lighten up Bri. It was a joke. We already made the reservations,"once again sending Kara into a fit of laughter as he playfully kissed the palm of her hand. Brian rolled his eyes and found his way back to the others. "Now that's what's been missing from your face." "Thank you Kev. Kristin truly is a lucky woman." Let's just hope I'm that lucky myself she kept to herself. |
| She watched outside the room as Polly and he spoke. He motioned her to move in closer. "Is she still mad at me Pol?" "What about?" "I remember we had a fight but I don't remember what about." "Howie, she's been here since the minute she found out. She spent the entire evening at your bedside until you showed signs of coming around. She's just happy you're alive baby bro,"Polly comforted him. Even as he lay there, he couldn't remember anything but the last words she said and the anger dripping from them; I thought you were different. "But Polly you should have seen the hurt on her face. That's all I remember. I don't ever want to hurt her. I want to take whatever it is that hurt her and make it disappear." "For a man that's been hit by a car, you are utterly amazing." "I was given a second chance. The good lord above saw fit to see me live again. I don't want to waste that on whatever took her away from me when?" unsure of the day of the week it was. "Yesterday." "Wow,"he uttered in total disbelief that he hadn't been crippled severely. He could wiggle his fingers and move his arms but the doctors said he might not be able to dance again. He'd be able to walk but the impact of the other vehicle did just enough damage to possibly impair him from the one thing he loved in his life besides Kara. But all the material things in the world could never take the place of the woman he loved. He knew he would always have her because fate had dealt it to be. At least his heart told him that's the way it should be. |
