| "What was that all about?"Polly inquired. "That was a long story I'd rather not get into right now. I'm just worried about Howie right now." "You two had a fight this morning I take it?" "You picked up on that huh?" "You think if you hadn't fought he'd not be fighting for his life right now." "I think if hadn't been about AJ, he'd be alive." "Mom. Dad,"Polly greeted solemnly. "Do they know anything yet?"Paula steadily but nervously inquired. "Haven't heard anything yet." "Kara. How you holding up dear?"Hoke asked gripping Paula's hand. "I'll be okay but I'm concerned about you." "We'll be fine. Let's just pray he makes it through." "You can believe I will. I don't wanna lose him any more then anybody else in this room." |
| Perturbed, AJ turned toward the window and taking in the view. "What was that little scene with Kara all about?"Nick inquired. AJ turned to the distraction."Nothing." "My wife knows something and I now know it has something to do with you two." "What else do you know?" "I know now that there's some reason you don't want those two together." "Leave it alone Nick will ya?" "You're not getting off that easy Mclean." "Just leave me alone,"he turned back to the window. "What's up with AJ?"Brian caught Nick as he was returning to Kristy. "I don't know. I think he just has it in for Kara. Can't stand to see his friend in love because he isn't." "You think it has something to do with her recent occupation?" "We've gotten past, why can't he?" |
| The surgeon entered the waiting room after what seemed an eternity and only turned out to be about five hours. They gathered for the news. His family and his friends all around, they all looked hopefully to the doctor."It's still a little touch and go right now but he should make it through." "Can we see him yet?"Hoke inquired. "Yes. And for the time being, we are only allowing immediate family in." "How 'bout this young lady." "Related?" "His girlfriend." His family had accepted her, the guys had accepted her so why couldn't AJ? "I think we can allow that." "Why does she get to go in?"AJ protested. "Pipe down AJ,"Brian shot up."You'll see him soon enough." "You can see him now,"the doctor led the group toward his room. She watched as his family wept at the sight of their son and brother lying helpless in a hospital bed because of her foolish mistake. "It's not your fault,"Polly reitterated to Kara."He's gonna make it. He's strong. If nothing else, he'll make it back for you." She entered the room and pulled his hand up to her heart."Can you feel that? It's my heart,"her voice muffled with tears."As long as I live, it will beat only for you. I don't know what I'll do if he takes you away from me. I thought I was doing the right thing by telling you about him. I remember somebody once told me that if you love something you set it free, if it comes back to you it was meant to be. Maybe it was a saying off one of those corny bookmarkers they make or something. I love you. Please come back to me,"she cried as she released her grip on his hand and left his room. |
