| Kara tipped the frame holding the picture of she and Howie in Hawaii. The tears spilled freely from her eyes as she heard Kristy's voice,"Knock, knock? Time for a coffee break yet?"she smiled as she let herself in. She cleared the tears from her eyes as best she could and looked at Kristy,"I guess so." "What's wrong Kara? Lynette says you've basically holed yourself up in here since you arrived this morning." "We had a fight,"Kara offered trying not to let it bother her. "You and Lynette,"Kristy teased. Kara cracked a smile."Seriously." "Hang on just a sec,"Kristy's cell phone interrupted them."Hello?" "Hey Kris. You know where we can find Kara this morning?"Nick's voice traveled through the earpiece. "I'm with her now. What's up?" "Howie was hit by an SUV in an intersection just before the studio." "I see. Where do we need to meet you?" Nick ran off the information. "We'll see you in a little while." "Love you." "Love you too,"she echoed and hung up the phone. "What's going on Kristy?" "Just come with me." "I can't just come with you. I have a business to run." "You'll come with because it has to do with Howie." "What's happened to him?" "Just come with me." "Kristy,"Kara protested. "I don't how to tell you this but he was hit by a SUV at an intersection just before the studio." "Lynette,"she urged over the intercom. Lynette entered her office."You rang?" |
| "You remember how you 've been begging me to give you a chance at what I do?" "Yes?" "You just got your opportunity." "What?" "You just show them what you can do and tell them you'll report back to me." "What's going on?" She looked to Kristy for guidance. She hadn't been around enough to know what she should and shouldn't tell people surrounding their relationship. "Howie was in an accident. We're going to the hospital. We'll call you to find out how things are going throughout the day,"she handed Lynette Kara's cell phone. "Okay,"Lynette returned politely. "And if you have any problems, assure them that I will take of anything they need once I know what's going on." "So what do I tell them?"Lynette returned. "Tell them the truth." Polly was the first to notice their arrival."What's going on? Does anybody know how he's doing?"Kara rambled. "He's still not out,"she offered Kristy found Nick as Polly and Kara continued on. "God this is my fault. If we hadn't,"she stopped short."Oh god please don't take him. I can't lose him now,"she fell into tears onto Polly's shoulder. She and Polly comforted each other. She losing a brother and Kara losing a wonderful man; a man that made her trust her feelings once again. AJ mockingly applauded her emotion. Polly shot him a quizzical glance and a blurred glare fell upon him from Kara's view. She cleared the tears from her face. "What's going on?"Polly inquired. "Care to tell them?"AJ challenged. "What are you talking about?"she played innocent. "Oh I think you know what I'm talking about." "You don't think I love him, do you?" "No I don't,"he returned. "I really don't care if you believe it or not. I'm here because I love him just like everybody else around here and if you wanna challenge me on that, do because I'd like you to find one person in here that shares your view." "You can bet I'll search high and low,"he recoiled and returned to the huddled group. "Is this what you were hiding from me for so long?"Nick uttered nearly above a whisper in Kristy's ear. She positively acknowledged him and returned."This is just the surface." |
