EUROPE CALLING
Sometimes the best business opportunities present themselves in serendipitous fashion. For example, I recently sold an mp3 download of Cosmic Garbageman Rag through iTunes Europe for 86.3 cents. Here in the states, iTunes only pays 63.7 cents for the same download. Thus European mp3 sales provide 35 percent more revenue than U.S. sales.

So Im thinking: How can I increase European sales? Follow the money trail and the answer is quite obvious. I really need to tour in Europe.

I burned up the phone lines, blasted e-mails and networked like there was no tomorrow. So far, Ive come up with a two-song slot at an open mike in Lisbon, a subway gig in Paris (they call it le Metro) and a singing waiter job in Edinburgh. Im actually pretty encouraged by all this, especially since the people I talked to didnt speak English and had no idea what I was talking about. OK, the Edinburgh guy spoke English but he talked so fast with that Cockney accent, I had no idea what he was saying.

I feel bad about leaving the country for several months since it represents the removal of a significant domestic revenue stream during tough economic times. But Ill be back before you know it. Dates and venues for the 2009 European tour will be announced on my Web site.

GARDNER MUSIC HALL REWIND
The May 16 show at the Gardner Music Hall was a blast. My kids, Jen and Keith, backed me on about half of the songs and we had a great time. Fittingly, I unveiled a new song about watching my children grow up. Entitled, Our Kids Arent Kids Anymore, it was a touching moment for all. Really.

YOUTUBE (NO, IM NOT KIDDING)
I have finally joined the YouTube community. Go to my Web site and youll find no less than three videos of recent live performances: Its the End of the Curse and We Know It, Why Did you Go, Johnny Damon? and Everybodys Talking on the Phone. Or you can click here.

Apparently, the videos are taking the nation by storm. End of the Curse has been viewed nearly three dozen times (and its not merely self-indulgence; Ive only watched it 25 times). You know and I know that its only a matter of time before I hear from VH1.

MUSIC IN MELROSE
We finished up our third season in grand style on May 14 with a bunch of great open-mikers and a terrific feature set by Linda Sharar. The open mike does not run during the summer but well be back in September. The 2009-10 schedule will be posted on the Music in Melrose Web site when it becomes available.
