Welcome ! There has been some confusion regarding DNA results for John Howell. Some descendants had DNA tests taken which did not match those of Richard Howell. In recent years, it has been found that John Howell's descendants do in fact have DNA that matches that of Richard Howell. The irregularities in DNA results are found in the descendants of Edmund Wheeler Howell born 1817 in Riverhead. The reason for the differences are speculative. However, DNA from descendants of Edmund Wheeler Howell's brother, James Howell, match those of Richard Howell, our earliest known ancestor. Additional DNA testing and sampling by male descendants of John Howell of Middle Island would be of great benefit. The purpose of this web page is to serve as a tool in researching the origins of this John Howell. A fair amount of information is known about John. That information will be placed on this page in the coming days and weeks.
