Houston Area Retired Chow Rescues

Welcome to the Houston Area Retired Chow Rescue site.
This is where older rescued chows who are in otherwise good health and have a nice temperment live out their days. While we still hope to adopt these lovely chows, we understand that due to their age, many will not find loving homes. We started this program for those chows who still have a lot to offer in their twilight years and deserve the best attention that we can give to them. This is not a cheap undertaking and we would like to ask for "sponsors" for these special seniors. Our sponsorship program will work like this : Pick a dog that you want to sponsor. Send our rescue a donation (any amount and as often as you'd like). In return, we will send you a certificate with the dog's picture on it thanking you for your sponsorship.

"Bear" is a sweet Golden/Chow mix who was brought to us from Louisanna. The nice people who found Bear netered him and got his shots up to date and brought him out to us. He apparently was a children's dog at one time as he will follow a child around with wagging tail. It is hard to determine Bear's age as most of his bottom teeth are missing, but we are guessing that he is 7-8 yrs. old. Very happy fellow, lacking teeth and does well with the other foster animals as well as the farm animals.

Bear passed on this past winter (2002).

"Bear Bear's" mother died while she was on an oversea's trip. Bear Bear's mother's family were afraid of him as they had never been around him much. He is a lovely 6 yr. old pure bred Chow. Bear Bear is not adoptable as he prefers his space and has bonded to some of the other retired rescues.

Bear Bear passed on this past summer. Hopefully he is playing with his Mistress at the Rainbow Bridge.

"Mr. Woo" has been with us the longest. We believe that he is 9 yrs. old and may have come from the Northern States. Mr. Woo is a little stiff these days, but in good spirits and likes children and other animals. He has been with us since March and has been gentle as a lamb this whole time.

+++++ WE are sad to report that Mr. Woo crossed the Bridge. We hope that his last year was made comfortable enough for him & that he felt the love that was given to him. ++++

Our rescue is often asked what items are needed or what can someone do to help us. We have put together a wish list and instructions on how to donate items that we need. Some of these items are always needed (like food). We appreciate any and all donations. To view our wish list and make a donation, please click Wish List/ Donations Needed. You can also click on the birdhouse below to send email to the rescue to find out what we need the most.
