When you've got a band with as much power and speed as Zeke, it's an experience best consumed in the flesh--as great as any album might be, it's never really enough to hold all the energy being put off. While it would be impossible for these guys to play your house every night, you can now at least have the luxury of tasting what the Zeke juggernaut has to offer in concert, thanks to this Zeke You DVD. It may not be the real thing, but this disc is too good to garner any complaints.
The main program of Zeke You is a document of various live appearances. There are clips of the band offstage, goofing around, and cutting up, as well. However, its the concert footage that makes up the meat of this offering and, ultimately, transforms Zeke You into a must-view. There is a little bit of overlap, with clasics such as "Ride With Zeke" and "Arkansas Man" showing up more than once. That isn't a bad thing, though, as any diehard will tell you. All it should take for newcomers is one viewing of Zeke You to realize that every scrap of footage included is pure treasure.
As an added bonus, you get another part documentary/part concert program filmed just prior to the release of Zeke's classic Epitaph debut Kicked In The Teeth. The quality of this footage is superb and the performance is seething. It's also really cool to see this particular interview footage, getting a glimpse into how exciting that period of time was for the band. A collection of low budget Zeke promo music videos close out the disc on a fine and fitting note.
More than a must exclusively for longtime Zeke fans, this DVD is essential for all those uninitiated to the Zeke onstage experience. It won't entirely suffice as a substitute for the genuine article, but Zeke You will leave you invigorated as if it was. Raw and unpolished--with this band, it wouldn't work any other way.
