Tyrades--s/t
Broken Rekids   2003

It's always nice when a band lives up to the positive hype surrounding them. Case in point: the Tyrades. On their self titled debut album, this band delivers all the unforgiving fury of an uncontained forest fire, razing everything in their path. It's a listen that begs for repeat spins.

The band most namechecked as an inspiration for the
Tyrades sound is the Avengers, and that is fair. The Tyrades do a great job balancing straightforwardness and angular quirk, also coming off in a manner akin to the most abrasive Lost Sounds output, but sans synth. Vocalist Jenna steals the show with her warbling sneer, backed perfectly by the tireless onslaught of the band. The Tyrades are an outfit firing on all cylinders, for the duration of this disc.

With a total of nine songs, clocking in at just twenty two and a half minutes,
Tyrades buzzes by in a flash, as so many other great punk rock albums have done before it. In the grand scheme, this is very much an album as opposed to a mere collection of songs--this disc is all about creating a sustained grind, not culling hit singles. Still, the mercilessly pounding "Couples" does stand out a bit from the pack, thanks mostly to it's light synth coloring.

Fans of any the aforementioned bands or styles would be well served to check out
Tyrades. As kinetic as this feels coming off the disc, it's a good bet the Tyrades are really something to behold onstage. On plastic or in the flesh, do yourself a favor and seek this stuff out. Superb.
