The Supermen--s/t
self-released   2005

Masked wrestling superheroes, naked girls of loose moral fibre, and enough imbibement to kill a horse--sounds like one hell of a blow out. Thanks to the Supermen, that warped scenario is a constant reality. This self-titled CDr shows these guys are are much more than a brilliant, flashy gimmick, though--there's enough musical meat here to back up the theatrics.

Make no mistake, in terms of style and sound, the
Supermen are the living embodiment of the out of control rock n' roll orgy. Lyrically, the theme centers solidly on girls--not nice girls; dirty girls who are willing to go to the most depraved extremes for just a moment of backstage glory and infamy. The Supermen style of punk rock leans quite a bit on hard rock convention, making this a listen sure to satisfy Turbonegro and Nashville Pussy fans as much as it should Mentors devotees.

In the midst of this wild fray, the
Supermen manage some solid cuts. "Nasty Nasty" and the burly rambler "Catfight" should find highest favor with the hard rockers. Call and response co-ed chants on "Face Down, Ass Up" leave the tune coming off as a sort of punk rock approximation of 2 Live Crew. The awesomely titled "Girls That Fall For Emo Boys Are Brain Dead Retards" ultimately proves the standout here, though. With laughably irresistable hooks, this one straddles the line between Poison and Poison Idea.

If genteel and conservative is your speed, don't proceed any further. The
Supermen are a walking, talking party 24/7 and wouldn't water that down for you if you begged them to. Word has it their stage act is unbeatable--part rock n' roll spectacular, part lucha libre supercard, and part red light sex show--so don't miss that if it's ever in your area. Fun stuff.
