Richard James & The Special Riders--"Jeff Gunn" + 1
Wrecked 'Em   2005

Rumbling like a beast from seemingly out of nowhere come Richard James & The Special Riders. These folks kick up quite an impressive cloud of fuzz and dust on this new 7" of theirs. The result is possibly the top sleeper entry for best listen of 2005. Turn your ears on, people.

Side A showcases the original track
"Jeff Gunn." Here, Richard James & The Special Riders tread some sort of middle ground between the Scientists and the Neckbones. Wet as hell and drenched in a psychotic wash of delay, this one rocks like a shitfaced neanderthal, at heart. Mean, mean, mean.

On the flip, these guys dip into the
Ramblin' Jeffrey Lee output of late Gun Club leader Jeffrey Lee Pierce to serve up a cover of "Go Tell The Mountain." Reverently creepy, anguished vocals shade the spare musical backdrop of this gem to stunning perfection. Should go over in a big way with Immortal Lee County Killers fans.

Hopefully, this platter is a harbinger of more great things to come from
Richard James & The Special Riders. Where they came from is irrelevant. What's important is that they're here. If this kind of stuff plays any role in your musical diet, run and get this disc quick. What a treat.
