Slow Horse--Slow Horse II
Berserker Records   2001

Seeing a band come into their own is an exciting thing--reaching that point where everything finally comes together in electrifying perfection. On their new Berserker Records release, Slow Horse II, Slow Horse have, indeed, come into their own. In the process, they have carved out a niche in the world of doom that belongs solely to Slow Horse.

Everything that made
Slow Horse great on their first album is amplified and refined in this new set. Great writing and vocals are accentuated by solid rhytmic backing to create a sound that is distinctly Slow Horse. A greatly improved production helps bring these qualities out even more.

What is it about
Slow Horse that makes them sound so unique? You may be inclined to label them "pure doom" but somehow that seems improper--they're too melodic for that moniker. When you take the keen melodic value of Slow Horse music and combine it with their almost exclusively "relationship"-type lyrics, Slow Horse seems to have invented some new hybrid that might be best called "emo-doom." Don't let the "emo" part of that scare you off, though--this is still some serious doom, as evidenced on tracks like "Stay."

Just about perfect,
Slow Horse have created an album that will surely stand the test of time. To be this appealing and unique at the same time is amazing. These guys are great live, too. Get out and support Slow Horse--you won't be sorry.
