The Resinators--demo 2004
self-released   2004

As garage rock n' roll has had its brush with the mainstream, there has been an obvious shift towards cleaner production in more and more efforts within the genre. Almost always, any sense of the urgency, energy, and vitality crucial to making this kind of music work gets glossed away. Still, every now and then, a disc comes along that reminds everyone what it's really all about. Enter the Resinators with their new 2004 demo. Go ahead and file this one in the "instant classic" category.

The
Resinators play basic garage punk rock n' roll that recalls many of the greats from the Crypt Records roster, such as the Oblivians, Revelators, and Gories. In fact, this new 2004 demo wouldn't sound at all out of place played back to back with any of those groups' revered albums. The sick thing is the Resinators may have delivered something even rawer than some of those efforts, with this outing. This sounds like it was recorded three notches past in-the-red and the results are brutally great.

In terms of songwriting, the
Resinators offer an unwavering, sustained front of quality. "Wish You Would Shake" is a standout--fittingly titled, as this music makes it clear to all poseurs, scensters, and politicers to genuinely revel in rock n' roll or get the hell out. "Gotta Go" makes the top of the list, as its slower tempo cultivates in a nasty groove where all the elements that make this demo a winner come together in perfect synergy. There's even a killer cover of "Wimp" by the Zeros that manages to trump the version included on the final Mono Men album.

That this is not offically pressed is a travesty beyond words. The
Resinators have come up with something on this demo that annihilates at least 95% of all other like-minded stuff coming out these days. This is absolutely essential to check out--it'll remind you how much fun rock n' roll can be. An exciting listen.
