Quiet Riot--Live! In The 21st Century
MVD   2003

As the first metal band to ever hit number one on the Billboard top albums chart, Quiet Riot's place in music history is set and solid. With the "classic" lineup of Banali/Sarzo/Cavazo/DuBrow back together, Live In The 21st Century sees the band as powerful a force as ever. Fashion and trends may have changed a lot over the past two decades but, for people who still hold this music dear, the party never stopped. Ultimately, Quiet Riot prove to have remained the ultimate hosts and ringleaders of this styled shindig.

Considering the musicians involved, it should come as no surprise
Live In The 21st Century delivers the goods, from a sonic standpoint. Frankie Banali and Rudy Sarzo to this day are one of the most talented and underrated rhythm sections of all time--Banali's drums errupting like cannons and Sarzo's virtuosity on bass rivaled perhaps only by Iron Maiden's Steve Harris. Carlos Cavazo tears through run after run in his typically dangerous yet unassuming manner--axemanship of the highest caliber, all the way. Then, there's Kevin DuBrow, hard rock's all time biggest smartass. His personality can still be  grating from time to time, but there's no denying the guy can work a crowd. Combine this collection of prowess with a stacked setlist and this DVD makes for an entertaining view.

All this said, there is one minor drawback to
Live In The 21st Century--the audience. This show was filmed in Hollywood, CA and it turns out all the rumors about crowds being passionless and jaded out there are true. At one point, DuBrow even interjects "don't be too cool for the room." Thankfully, the band are obviously having so much fun, it helps negate any drag from lack of crowd energy.

Quiet Riot obviously realize what their music has meant to those who grew up on it and they honor that reverence with their performance on Live In The 21st Century. As an added bonus, you also get an audio CD that contains most of this concert--that way, you can barrel down the road with the stereo cranked, reliving the glory, as it should be. It's all quite a treat, to say the least. Get ready for some much needed fun, folks. Recommended.
