Slow Horse/Calamus--No Sleep Til SHOD
Berserker Records   2001

The spirit of brotherhood in the world of doom 'n' groove is a great thing. This spirit is exemplified in the Slow Horse/Calamus split 7", No Sleep Til SHOD, with each band covering a song from the other. The result is one fun listen.

First up is
Slow Horse with a cover of the Calamus track "In Between." This is a great song with a super stutter-step riff. Slow Horse sounds thick as always, here. Their rendition also features the treat of bassist Ernest on vocals instead of Dan. His vox is really raw here and suits the groovin' track perfectly.

Calamus wrap up the split with a cover of the Slow Horse song "Coming Unhinged." Calamus sounds surprisingly meaty here--much more so than they do live. Their performance is really laid back and it sounds like they're having a blast kicking out the jam.

If you're looking for a fun addition to your arsenal of doom 'n' groove, this could be for you. Act fast, though--this 7" is a limited edition of 333. As good as both these bands are, they probably won't last long.
