The New Flesh/Clancy 6--split 7"
McCarthyism/Human Conduct/Cephia's Treat   2004

If you're expecting more played out Fugazi copy-cuttery from this split 7", you can forget it. Here, both the New Flesh and Clancy 6 put their spin on the D.C. sound. The results are inspired and feel very fresh. It all adds up to a very rewarding listen.

The
New Flesh fill side-A with their track "King." An interesting take on D.C. styled 'core, this one has enough noise to satisfy the no wavers, as well as a measure of hypnotic and loopy AmRep-esque violence. Very memorable, unique, and cool, this one should appeal as much to Sonic Youth and Jesus Lizard fans as it will to all the Fugazi worshipers out there.

Clancy 6 utilize the flip space for "The Levitation Of Bodies." Easily the sharpest outing yet from these folks, you're served almost equal portions of hardcore and grind on this one. Tempo shifts are utilized perfectly to direct the song's pacing and to keep the listen interesting.

If much of the hardcore hitting your ears these days feels faceless and contrived, give this split a try. Both the
New Flesh and Clancy 6 offer well-constructed tunes that are executed with the appropriate venom and vigor called upon. One of the better releases from this corner of the musical map to cross this desk in a great long while. Killer, for sure.
