Negative Reaction--The Orion Chronicles
Game Two   2000

It turns out that
Sleep's Jerusalem has an evil step sibling, Negative Reaction's The Orion Chronicles. There is no rivalry here, however, as Negative Reaction have definitely come up with one of the greatest pieces of mega doom ever dropped on the unsuspecting public. As a result, they've cemented their spot as one of the greatest of all time.

Unlike
Jerusalem, The Orion Chronicles is comprised of more than one song. However, the centerpiece is definitely the 38 minute epic "The Moon Song." While not as long as Jerusalem, there seems to be greater variance in riffs with "The Moon Song" which makes it a much easier listen. You know you've created a great piece of epic music when the song seems drastically shorter than it actually is, which is definitely the case here.

For those afraid the
Negative Reaction of Endofyorerror is dead and gone, no worries. The song length may be longer and musically it may be more traditionally doomy but the screamed sludge vocals are still intact. What Negative Reaction have managed to do with this album is find the absolute middle ground of the sludge/doom hybrid. The results are simply stunning.

In fact, this album is probabaly the ultimate masterpiece of the sludge/doom hybrid. You will be hard pressed to ever get it any better than this. For undertaking such a massive task and executing it so flawlessly,
The Orion Chronicles deserves a spot in everyone's music collection. If you love hearing greatness, don't think twice about it, just score it.
