Medic--Greetings and Amputations
McCarthyism   2004

With the current glut of metal tinged hardcore on the market, it's really difficult finding bands who stick out. While so much of this output blurs together, the best of these bands have enough going on within their subtleties to rise above the dreck. One such band is Medic. Their new CD Greetings and Amputations is much more than the same ole same ole.

While there are a ton of bands these days mixing the D.C.-styled hardcore sound with elements from various metal forms, most of those outfits tend to lean most on their
Fugazi-esque half. The thing that seperates Medic from the pack is the fact their music is tipped primarily in the direction of old school thrash metal. There is still enough angularity and quirky brutality to appease hardcore fans, but the metal crowd will especially eat Greetings and Amputations up.

What you get on this disc is a serving of four well put together songs.
"Breathing Ashes Spitting Scabs" sets the pace, starting with a machine gun guuitar assault, yet making space to switch things up dynamically over the rest of the track. Medic holds true to this form right up through the disc closing "One Last Rule," making Greetings and Amputations a consistent listen that never gets boring.

Hardcore fans shouldn't despair over
Medic's metallic tendencies--this is still for you. However, metalheads who may have had a hard time getting their head around hardcore in the past will definitely find Greetings and Amputations more accomodating. Regardless of which side of the fence you prefer being on, this is worthy stuff.
