The Lucifer Star Machine--"Death Baby" + 2
Blacktongue   2004

There's something to be said for making music that feels larger than life. The trick is to do so without coming off like a total jerk, though. On this 7", the Lucifer Star Machine come out on the positive side of that equation. It isn't rocket science, but you don't see many other bands capable of pulling this stuff off these days, either.

Featured on the A-side of this slab is
"Death Baby." For the style it's in, this one is an absolute classic track. Imagine the glam pomp and cockiness of Roxy Music and T Rex hybridized with the hard rock muscle of KISS and Turbonegro--that should give you a good idea of what's going on here. The cowbell thunks, the riffs flow like fine wine, and the attitude bowls you completely over. The Lucifer Star Machine have a legitimate gem on their hands with this cut.

More glam strut follows on the flip with
"Hot & Hairy" and "She-Devil." The difference on these outings is a greater sense of punkiness shining through. These songs are also considerably less immediate than "Death Baby," thanks mainly to the off-kilter quirkiness they possess which is somewhat Damned-esque (fitting, as Rat Scabies had a hand in producing this platter). Regardless, it's all quality stuff and this pair closes things on an intriguing note.

If you are a fan of any the aforementioned bands or styles, be advized to pick a copy of this up. Better hurry, though--this is limited to 500 copies and you don't want to miss out. Should this effort be any indication, expect big things from the
Lucifer Star Machine down the road. Very worthy, indeed.
