Knaughty Knights--"Death Has Come Over Me" + 3
Goner   2005

Featuring Rich Crook of Lost Sounds fame and Jack Yarber of the Oblivians and countless other great bands, Knaughty Knights somehow manage to exceed every expectation one might have for this new 7" of theirs. No small feat with that hellaciously awe inspiring pedigree, to be sure. Where Knaughty Knights succeed most is in their willingness to wear influences others in their circle might not immediately think to.

The first side of this killer platter starts off with the best song of the batch
"Death Has Come Over Me." Coming off a bit like Sweet or the Glitter Band in a knife fight with the Reatards, this gem has instant classic written all over it. The glam slant is amazingly refreshing within the context of this music. This is followed by the only Yarber fronted tune of the disc "Get Well In Jail"--it's the picture perfect rocker you've come to expect out of this guy over the years.

The B-side begins with
"He's Gonna Get You." Here, Knaughty Knights cull a lead guitar tone that shades things in a slightly Overkill-era Motorhead direction. Closing things out is the bouncy bopper "Wenches Of Turpentine St.," sure to be a fave amongst fans of Crook's work in Lost Sounds for the way it's paced.

The supergroup is often an eye-rolling exercise for its inability to live up to hype, but
Knaughty Knights certainly deem themselves worthy of such exclamations with this outing. Fantastic in its craftsmanship and punishingly executed, good luck finding better than this. Somehow an even more exciting listen than initially expected. Manditory.
