The Badnads--"Japanese Bloodbath" + 3 Scarey Records 2004 Few things make life truly worth living the way mean, nasty punk rock and pro wrestling do. Combine those two things the right way and you're one step closer to utopia. The Badnads do just that on this 7" EP--these UK based hooligans bash it out very convincingly, over the course of four songs. The A-side begins with a Badnads original, "Japanese Bloodbath." It's a full-on assault that would make any old FMW wrestler proud. This one has a nice bridge section in the middle, slower and a bit more sedated than the rest of the song, that changes things up nicely. This is followed up by a cover of the Jerry Lee Lewis classic "I'm On Fire." Here, the band turn the scum down a hair, raise the rock n' roll a pinch, and everything turns out great. Side-B serves up another Badnads composition, "Ben Shaws Boys." Unlike "Japanese Bloodbath," there's no breathing room--it's a total sonic beatdown. This one has a feel verging on Oi, with lyrics about loving wrestling, drinking, and being unfriendly--awesome stuff. Closing everything out is a cover of David Allan Coe's "Keep Those Big Wheels Humming." The Badnads do this song justice, injecting some slide lead guitar which makes this the most Southern a UK band has probably sounded since Foghat. Fans of any Confederacy of Scum bands will almost certainly embrace the Badnads with open arms. This 7" is definitely coming from that school of thought. A spoken intro and outtro by indie wrestling superstar Madman Pondo gives this slab an extra dash of class. A keeper, for sure. Score this 7" directly from SCAREY RECORDS |
