Hellstomper/Savage City Outlaws--split 7"
Valentim Do Caralho   2004

It's hard to lose with a split release when both bands carry their weight the way they should. That's exactly what's happening on this duel between C.o.S. legends Hellstomper and their punkin' Portugese pals Savage City Outlaws. It's more of the same good stuff you've come to expect and then some.

First up are
Hellstomper with their "Move It On Down South Medley." This head-on collision of Hank Williams and Charlie Daniels standards sees the boys dishing it out in the ornery way only they can. However, the scale is tipped more toward fun than menace on this particular outing, proving itself one of the more special moments in the Hellstomper cannon as a result. In terms of continuity, the segue between sections is so smooth, if you blinked you'd miss it. Expertly executed and not at all the clunky trainwreck some ignorant of the band's true prowess would assume it to be.

Savage City Outlaws begin their portion of the program with "Rap Is Crap"--sorry wrestling nerds, this is not the same song the late Curt Hennig made infamous during the final days of WCW. As much as this cut has to do stylistically with the work of ANTiSEEN, it has a Swedish action rock slant going at the same time in the vein of the Hellacopters best work. The same could be said of "Mad Trucker," a crushing, epic, midtempo number that proves to be the Savage City Outlaws best. Noodly, riff complimenting lead work helps give both cuts that little extra oomph that most bands dream of possessing.

If you're a
Hellstomper fanatic, then it's a foregone conclusion you'll need to lay ears on this disc. Don't discount the contributions of Savage City Outlaws, though--both their cuts are a big reason this platter proves such a success. A real winner, this one. Score at will.
