Hammercocks/The Nerds--vs. split 7"
Zurich Chainsaw Massacre   2003

What happens when you pair a bunch of mean-assed Texans with the biggest degenerate perverts Italy has to offer? One hell of a rock n' roll party, that's what. So it goes on this split between the Hammercocks and the Nerds. Bonded by a similar musical vision, this platter gives each outfit ample space to shine individually.

Layin' it out on the A-side are the
Hammercocks. Their attack is very much in the ANTiSEEN and Hookers mold. "It's a Good Day (to Die)" starts with a killer groove which vaguely recalls classic Skynyrd, before launching into full out bedlam. "Son of a Bitch" cleverly utilizes breaks to switch up its ebb and flow--a songwiritng device most bands of this type would never think to utilize. That said, this song has all the subtlety of whistler bottle rockets and automatic firearms--just like you'd hope for.

Bringing up the rear on the flip are destructo rock deviants the
Nerds. They begin their portion of of the program with "The Traitor." This one shines in large part due to the fact Boss' voice has never sounded as pissed or enormous as it does here. The split closing "Lords of Dregs and Crap" delievers the picture perfect punk n' core you've come to expect from these guys. Its bridge section not only switches up pacing but spreads the song spatially.

Most folks who pick this up will have a pretty good idea of what they've gotten themselves into long before the needle hits the wax. Even then, just how burly and punishing this split proves to be may surprise. Both the
Hammercocks and the Nerds represent themselves impressively on this outing, so much so one listen will likely leave one primed for full-length consumption of each band. For fans of all the aforementioned groups as well as Hellstomper.
