The Force--s/t
Doom Records

As most doom fanatics know, Alfred Morris is one of the greatest
Sabbath-influenced riff masters that has ever walked the planet. This CD compiles the output of his pre-Iron Man band, The Force. It's not only a testament to what a great guitarist he is but it also proves that sometimes you can create greatness even if it isn't the greatness you were aiming for.

The vintage of this material ('78-'84) proves that Alfred has always had it. Standout tracks include "
Do It Again," "The Way Out," "Running Away With Your Love," and "Last Chance." You won't be dissapointed in Albert's riffwork on any of these songs or anywhere else throughout the CD, for that matter.

The really neat thing about these recordings is that you can hear the band trying to get the sound of the
Iron Man we know and love today--Sabbath riffage with operatic metal vocals. They're not exactly hitting it here, though. Instead, the Force sounds like Black Sabbath's Paranoid mixed in a blender with Germfree Adolescents by X-Ray Spex, thanks to the predominant vocals of Simona Queen. This vibe is most evident/at its best on the renditions of "The Way Out" and "Do It Again" culled from the '78-'83 demo sessions. The result is one unique, cool, entertaining listen.

Alfred Morris and his legacy are only enhanced by this release. It proves that his vision as a guitarist has always been amazingly sharp. At the same time, it is really fun to hear how the concept of the band tightened up with each subsequent effort. For the doom fiends and maybe even the punks--may the
Force be with you.
