Evil Army--"Conquer Human Life" + 3
Contaminated   2003

For a lot of folks, "metal" is a dirty word when it comes to music. That's a damn shame because there is a massive quantity of brilliant music to be found in that realm. If you've been stand-off-ish towards this style until now, you may have finally found the band to help ease you into the heavy. Regardless of your tastes, one listen to this 7" and there's a good chance you'll be clamoring to enlist in the Evil Army.

Evil Army could be considered part of a new breed of "crossover" metal bands, in the vein of such forerunners as Dirty Rotten Imbeciles (D.R.I.) or Excel. At the same time, this is both punk and rock enough to connect with fans outside that subgenre. Still, the four tracks on this 7" never forsake the metal. Perhaps Evil Army's sound would be best described as Kicked In The Teeth-era Zeke with Slayer's Reign In Blood as the primary inspiration point instead of Motorhead's Ace Of Spades. Any way you slice it, this is killer stuff.

All four of the songs on this 7" fly by in a frenzied blur but it's definitely a quality frenzied blur. The first track,
"Conquer Human Life," as well as "Friday The 13th," shine through thanks to the gleaming Slayer-isms in their riffs. On the last track, "Wrong Approach," Evil Army seems to echo the Metallica of "Metal Militia" a bit and the results are just as spirited.

If you like rock, punk, or metal at all, there's probably something on this 7" for you. If bands who float on the fringes of all those styles, such as
Speedealer or others listed above, are your cup of tea, this release will be essential for you. Either way, Evil Army are a band the world needs a full-length release on. Fall in line to chant "more, more, more"--make the score.
