Dutch Masters--"Radioactive" + 2 Goner 2005 Tired of folks injecting fancy time signature shifts into their punk and rock n' roll to try and prove they're "composers"? Do you miss the days when people let it all hang out and were capable of creating some emotional tie to their songs without all the silly pretense? Fear not--the Dutch Masters are here to save the day with their new 7". It just goes to prove if you want something done right, go to the professionals straight away. Side one serves to showcase "Radioactive." A total bruiser, this Stoogey, Dead Boys-esque tune is about as no bullshit as it gets. Straightforward, linear song structure succeeds here because the raw materials being worked with are so top notch. Mean as hell and feeling pretty classic. The second side sports a pair of Eric Friedl penned cuts, "Pleasure" and "It's Not Obvious." With its uh huh refrains "Pleasure" may be catchiest thing he has ever dished out. A partial guitar break after the solo mixes up the pacing nicely on this one. "It's Not Obvious" closes things on a venom drenched note, following in the footsteps of Friedl's equally brutal shots as a member of the Oblivians and Bad Times. Ace, as expected. Looking for fault somewhere in these grooves? Forget it. This Dutch Masters platter is no-brainer must-have from first note to last. It ain't rocket science but it'll damn sure launch you out of your seat. Class is in session on this one, so pay attenion, kids. Score this 7" directly from GONER |
