Johnny Vomit and the Dry Heaves--"Thanks For The Ride" EP
Goner   2005

As rock n' roll has evolved, there has arisen a tendency for certain elements within its domain to take it a bit too seriously. Thankfully, there isn't a single such high fallutin' incidence of pomposity to be found on Thanks For The Ride, the new 7" EP from Johnny Vomit and the Dry Heaves. On the contrary, rock n' roll's original spirit feels very much alive within these grooves. As such, fun and laughter are at a premium here.

Christening side A is
"Big Black Boots And A Go-Go Butt." A rollicking slopfest of the highest caliber, these wiseacres manage to incorporate elements from Toni Basil's "Mickey" into the proceedings to great comedic effect. The chuckles keep rolling with "Piss On Your Show." Boasting the best juvenile/drunken rhyme scheme maybe ever and golden lyrical turns such as "I'll piss on your show/even your chin," this one's a total winner.

Closing things out on the flip is
"Where's That Band From North Carolina From?" Burly vocals and twistin' riffs ensure this will stand as the ass shaker of the bunch. It's an effective and powerful capper to one hell of a party.

With this platter,
Johnny Vomit and the Dry Heaves have effectively dropped trow and planted a deuce square on the noggins of all those who would nitpick the fun out of this form. This is the record you put on when you're under the incorrect impression that rock n' roll has lost its smile. A real breath of fresh air. Featuring former memebers of the Oblivians and Squirrel Nut Zippers. Get it and get down.
