Quintron's Drum Buddy is one of the greatest inventions in music history, without a doubt. The sound of this five oscillator, light-activated drum machine is so unique and complex, it defies description. That being said, it would be a dream come true for anyone to own their own Drum Buddy. The good news is that the dream of owning a Drum Buddy can be a reality through The Drum Buddy Show, an infomercial which provides an outlet for a select few to actually purchase one of these amazing instruments.
Throughout the course of this 50 minute video tape, Quintron, along with hosts Bob Global and Rebecca Sims, takes you on a journey through the Drum Buddy. Not only are you shown how the Drum Buddy works and the principles behind it, but the inventor himself lends some interesting insights into the actual creation of the instrument and the complexites discovered along the way. It is an absolutely facsinating view.
However, this infomercial is much more than a gear nerd's wet dream. This is thanks, in part, to some great guest appearances. MC Trachiotomy joins the proceedings to perform an awesome song created from Drum Buddy samples. Miss Pussycat puts on one of her always great puppet shows, this one titled Mardi Gras From The Center Of The Earth which is amazingly well filmed here. Maybe the highlight of the show, though, is when the late, great Ernie K-Doe joins Quintron for one of the most amazing renditions of "Fever" ever put to tape. K-Doe's soulful voice blends perfectly with Quintron's smooth organ and Drum Buddy playing. It is a sight to behold.
The real bottom line is that this video is totally worth owning, even if you aren't one of the 100 people who will wind up purchasing a Drum Buddy for the reasonable price of $999.99. It's an interesting, far-out viewing experience with so many funny-as-hell moments, it's hard to keep track of them all. Absolute genius from an absolute genius.
