The Dead Kings--"I Just Can't Deicide" + 1
Casual   2004

The Dead Kings are one of those bands difficult to classify. Are they punk, metal, or rock n' roll? All of the above, really. One thing is for sure: the Dead Kings are an awesome band more folks should be hip to. This new one-sided 7" of theirs provides further proof of that fact.

Of the two songs on this platter,
"I Just Can't Deicide" is probably the most accessible. This tune leans much more towards the pure rock n' roll end of the Dead Kings lexicon. The bouncy riff on this one is sure to connect with newbies who like things catchy. Amazingly, these guys manage to squeeze in a few death grunts but it never detracts from the hooky nature of the song. Very well done.

That said,
"Feeding Frenzy" is the definite highlight of this 7". The Dead Kings have always been best when their metallic leanings were shining through. This is no exception. The palm-muted riff which drives this track is only bettered by the band's brilliant "These Lines" off their For All Those Hot Black Chicks album. While this is most certainly a metal song, it also seems the track most likely to be favored by fans of the scum punk style the Dead Kings are often lumped in with. Any way you look at it, this cut is a killer.

If you loved the
Dead Kings before, this 7" will certainly sustain those feelings. For newcomers, this disc will provide a fairly good glimpse into what the band are about and capable of. More amazing stuff from these dudes. Definitely worth seeking out.
