The Cooters--"4 song freebie"
self-released   2001

When rock is executed with passion and abandon, it's a glorious thing. That's the point when plain ole "rock" becomes RAWK. On this four song CDr from The Cooters, that's exactly what's going on.

The first track,
"Woo Lord," is one of the finest slabs of RAWK that will ever hit your ears. This one is so perfectly crafted and executed, it's frightening. It has a terriffic Southern edge, to boot. Fans of bands like KISS and Backyard Babies will buckle over in seizures of joy when they get ahold of this.

If there was question in anyone's mind where
The Cooters were coming from, the second track is a Motorhead cover. Their rendition of "Ace of Spades" is reverent and inspired. It's a straight-up take on one of the all-time greats, and is a real winner, here.

The third track,
"Cootersaurus," starts off with a slinky, sinister, jazzy intro. Then, it breaks down into a full-on headbangin', boogie rock meltdown. This one is a total smackdown that doesn't let you come up for air.

The Cooters wrap things up with "Soul Food." This song is a bit of a departure from the other three songs. It still rocks, but it's much more angular than the other tracks. The Cooters sound more akin to the Butthole Surfers or Jesus Lizard on this tune than to KISS or Motorhead, but that's okay--it still rocks and adds a nice sense of variety to the proceedings, without straying too far off course.

The Cooters are a great band who deserves to be heard. Amazing onstage, they've got everything covered to satisfy your rocking needs. How cool to give away these CDrs to their audience, too. Free or otherwise, this is worth having.
