The Coffin Cheaters--Porno Serial Killers

When it comes to scumpunk, a good number of folks tend to let its lyrical shock value overshadow any musical merit that might be found in a given offering of the style. Part of this can be attributed to the fact that a lot of the bands operating in this form think they can get over with audiences based on that shock alone. Of course, the best outfits in this realm rise above overdone GG Allin parody to carve a worthy niche for themselves. The Coffin Cheaters can count themselves amongst those on the better end of that equation. This full-length release of theirs, Porno Serial Killers, has enough appeal to reach across genre lines--as long as listeners check any and all politically correct leanings they may have at the door.
In terms of style, the most obvious reference points for what the Coffin Cheaters do would have to be the works of mighty titans the Hookers and Zeke. Still, perhaps the best way to describe Porno Serial Killers' sound would be to say it's like a hybrid of the Candy Snatchers and the Mentors. At its core, this music is top shelf metallic punk rock n' roll, with lyrics that seem like they were nicked from El Duce's personal diary. This listen will definitely crush and almost certainly offend you.
Where the Coffin Cheaters really have it all over the competition is in their ability to craft good songs. Porno Serial Killers is at its most Zeke-ified on blazers such as "I Rule Hell" and "Killin' Machine." The band are able to mix things up nicely on "C-U-N-T-S-N-O-T" which stands out thanks to its keep-'em-on-their-toes tempo shifts. Pacing also plays a key role in lifting "Fuck My Family" above the rest of the pack, the slowest of this field at midtempo. In the end, if you crave sheer force and brutality, "Tits, Ass, & Pussy" will prove to be the top tastefully ragged treat of all.
Normally, it's a pretty cut and dried decision if a slab of scumpunk is for you, based on personal taste and sensitivity. However, when it comes to Porno Serial Killers, people who might not typically tread this path are encouraged to partake. The Coffin Cheaters have crafted a work here that seems destined to win over most crowds based on firepower and strength of craftsmanship. You may cringe a bit along the way but this ride is too immense to miss out on.
