CC Riders--s/t
Contaminated   2001

Pure and simple, Monsieur Jeffrey Evans is a living legend. From the Gibson Bros, to 68 Comeback, to South Filthy, this man has proven himself incapable of letting listeners down--with that voice, how could he. Of all the great outfits he has been a part of, it's puzzling one of his best is so obscure--CC Riders. In fact, this limited edition CDr from the Riders could possibly be the crown jewel of his entire catalog.

With
CC Riders, you have Monsieur Evans fronting an all-star band which includes James Arthur (Fireworks/Necessary Evils), Jay Reatard (Reatards/Lost Sounds/Final Solutions), and Alicja Trout (Mouserocket/Lost Sounds/Ultracats). Obviously, this configuration of musiucians is a sure bet to deliver rock and roll with venom and brute force. That said, in the grand scheme of things, this isn't that drastically removed from what was going on with 68 Comeback. It could be said CC Riders have all the power and grit found on 68 Comeback's A Bridge Too Fuckin' Far album without the lo-fi sound--this album rings clear as a bell but it's just as raw.

Per the usual, you get a ton of great covers mixed with a handful of
Evans origianls. Of the original material, the highlight is "The Long, Long Ballad Of The Red-headed Girl." This song is the kind of laid-back tearjerker Jeffrey's voice was made to put out of the park. Cover-wise, there are two standouts. First, a rendition of the Stooges track "I Got A Right." Simply getting to hear Jeffrey Evans sing this song is worth the price of admission, times four. Also, you get a really sick cover of Merle Haggard's "Workin' Man's Blues." On this cut, CC Riders take rock and roll bashing to a whole new level--brutal stuff, indeed.

When someone has released as much quality stuff as
Monsieur Jeffrey Evans, it's hard to say what's the absolute best. Still, at the very least, you can rest assured CC Riders is close in the hunt for that top spot. Why this has never been properly released is a mystery. Anyway, the secret is out. Remember, this is a limited edition of 100, so you best get on the ball.
