Brezhnev--WWW.BULLSHIT/CONTROL
D-FENS   2004

Some albums don't reveal all their charms to you immediately. That said, those are also the albums which generally stand the test of time best. Brezhnev's new album WWW.BULLSHIT/CONTROL is one of those discs that keep giving the more you go along. It truly is worth the effort to try and grasp all it has to offer.

While
Brezhnev's sound is obviously rooted in the speed and fury of hardcore, there's just as much going on with WWW.BULLSHIT/CONTROL that's straight up rock n' roll. The results, more often than not, resemble the New Bomb Turks a bit. Still, there are enough twists and turns along the way, the band always maintain their own sense of face. It all aids in kepping this album a fresh and interesting listen.

WWW.BULLSHIT/CONTROL boasts some seriously cool songwriting, to be sure. The rocked out "Don't Blow Up Brighton" has just enough metallic edge to recall Zeke, to a degree. "Pointless" sticks out, thanks to the inclusion of some female vox that helps drive the inherent melodicism of the track. Speaking of melodic, the ever so slightly angular workouts on "Ode De Lube" and "Park Your Car Up Your Ass" manage to cultivate a Husker Du-esque vibe. Front to back, it's all quite good.

WWW.BULLSHIT/CONTROL is one little surprise after another. These revelations are all so subtle, they only reveal themselves upon repeat listens. Brezhnev have put together an offering that gets better with each listen--those are the best kind. Deserving of your attention.
