ANTiSEEN--Eat More Possum
TKO   2002

After coming through back-to-back with virtually flawless albums in Noise For The Sake Of Noise and Southern Hostility, ANTiSEEN were on schedule for a bit of a tail off on their next album. Fortunately, these guys have never conformed to anyone's standards but their own. The result of that fact is Eat More Possum stepping things up a few notches more than before, just when you thought there were no available plateaus left for ANTiSEEN to hit. Once again, they proved everybody wrong.

In the grand scheme of things,
Eat More Possum may be the definitive ANTiSEEN album. Most notably, this was the first time ANTiSEEN's pro wrestling slant would show up predominantly on record. From that image/show standpoint, to the clear yet blistering sound quality, on through to the way the album is paced, Eat More Possum is the foundation for everything ANTiSEEN have done since. That's understandable, as they really knocked it out of the park in a major way with this effort.

Eat More Possum is absolutely perfect, from a songwriting perspective. "Animals...Eat 'Em" celebrates the flesh in a way that would make the mighty Nuge smile from ear to ear, while "Glad I Am The Way I Am" is another classic example of ANTiSEEN's uncompromising nature. The band's Southern roots shine brightest on the harp-littered "Shittin' In High Cotton," as well as on the washboard and cowbell accentuated hardcore of "Star Whore." ANTiSEEN pay homage to one of the greatest wrestlers ever on "Cactus Jack," and finish the disc with what might've been their best song up to this point, "Fuck All Y'all." It simply doesn't get much better than Eat More Possum.

By coming up with two successive undeniable masterpieces in
Southern Hostility and this album, ANTiSEEN firmly asserted themselves as one of the greatest bands of all time. Perhaps the spoken track which ends this platter, "Jack Starr #2," sums it up best: "Antiseen--the only real punk band in the world. Believe me. I'm Jack Starr, and baby, you can believe what I say." No one could protest the words of Mr. Starr back then and neither will you be able to today. Eat More Possum is the one ANTiSEEN album nobody can live without.
