ANTiSEEN/Hookers--split 7"
Steel Cage   2003

You could title this split Black Visions Of Eating More Possum. Yes, this release sees destructo rock kings ANTiSEEN paired with metallic punk crusaders the Hookers. The result is a fine platter where both bands pay homage to their hard rock roots.

First up are
ANTiSEEN, covering "All The Lessons" from Rose Tattoo. Considering their splitmates, this is an excellent choice, as ANTiSEEN resemble the Hookers here from a sonic standpoint. The main reason for that lies in the epic chord changes which pop up in this tune's riff. ANTiSEEN's performance is inspired and dead on, making this one of their greatest covers ever--and that's saying a lot.

The
Hookers bring things home on their working out of the Scorpions' "Can't Get Enough." At first glance, this wouldn't be the top choice for a Scorpions song you'd want these guys to cover---once you get your ears around it, things make perfect sense, though. As always, the Hookers destroy everything in their path, the patented wall of guitar they always boasted willing things here to undeniable greatness. It really makes you wish they were still around.

This is one of those records you knew would be great, but you just couldn't imagine to what degree it would be so. For somehow managing to exceed and shatter every lofty expectation, this split is a classic. An absolute must-own--your life ain't complete without this one.
