So, have the mighty ANTiSEEN finally given in and gone to a newspaper advice columnist to help them temper their rage? Hell no! This nifty little 7" gets its name from Abdullah the Butcher. Yes, ANTiSEEN have immortalized yet another mat legend in song. In typical fashion, they don't disappoint. Plus, you get live takes on some of the band's other wrestling themed tunes. Rejoice!
The A-side kicks off with a teaser track from ANTiSEEN's forthcoming Badwill Ambassadors album, "Dear Abby." This blistering ode to everyone's favorite fork wielding maniac sees Jeff Clayton spitting out such brillaint lyrical turns as "he's a squared circle psycho, better leave him alone/you don't believe me, ask Carlos Colon" as fast as he can. It's almost certainly a sign of great things to come on the new full-length. This gem is followed up by a live take on the band's classic tribute "Sabu," extracted from a show in 2000. The sound quality on this one is great, and when everything else drops out to give the bass a spotlight, the sound is sick and distorted beyond words. Great.
Side B offers two more wrestling songs, "Funk U" and "Cactus Jack," both taken from The 20 Year Anniversary Show DVD performance. Of course, the sound quality on these tracks is incredible. "Funk U" may be the band's best ever wrestling tribute, maybe in part because any union of Terry Funk and ANTiSEEN is like a match made in heaven--or hell, maybe. Still, it's hard to beat the hyper hardcore boogie of "Cactus Jack." Any way you look at it, this platter is a can't miss.
As if the music itself wasn't enough, the packaging of this "Dear Abby" 7" rules, too. The front sleeve features a full color cartoon rendering of Abdullah that is incredible--Sabu, Cactus Jack, and the Funker are illustrated in similar fashion on the back. As an added bonus, the insert features lyrics to the new track on one side and contact info for the Butcher's Atlanta restaurant on the other. Blue marblized vinyl, to boot. Classy all the way, baby.
