| Lebanon Enterprise, 12/23/1992, Wed, Page A7 Carl C. Hays, 76, Greenville, Ind., died Dec. 16, 1992 at Norton's Hospital in Louisville. Hays was formerly of Gravel Switch. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Herbert and Ethel Clarkson Hays, and one granddaughter, Rennie Hays, who died in May of 1988. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII, an active member and trustee of the Greenville Christian Church, a farmer, carpenter and construction superintendent, and active supporter of the New Albany and Floyd Central High School programs, and a lifetime member of the Floyd Central Booster Club. He served at president of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Union Local #64 for many years and was a baseball coach for several years in the Mt. Tabor Babe Ruth League in New Albany, Ind. Before moving to Greenville he was a deacon of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Gravel Switch. Survivors include: his wife, Florence Collins Hays; six sons, William Abell Hays, Thomas C. Hays and John H. Hays, all of Greenville, Ind., George C. Hays of Kings Mountain, NC, Carl C. Hays II of Florence and Henry H. Hays of Atlanta, GA; eight grandsons; seven granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 3 pm, Dec. 19, 1992, at Greenville Christian Church. Local services were held at 2 pm, Dec. 20, 1992 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, near Gravel Switch. Burial was in the Haysville Cemetery. Tim Fry officiated at both services. Pallbearers were grandsons, Sam, Billy, Carl, Seth, George, Harrison, Joe and Jay Hays. Love Funeral Home, Inc. of Palmyra, Ind, and Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Memorial Fund. |
