Bury FC Juniors  4-4  HSM Trojans   League   Tuesday 27th April 2004

Without doubt, Trojans most inspired performance of the season, and a truly entertaining game, against very strong opposition.

Trojans took about five minutes to settle down and get into the game, and in that time, Bury took the lead after 4 minutes from a corner that wasnt cleared. Trojans replied 3 minutes later, when they were awarded a free kick just outside the area, on the right side of the field. Charles stepped up to take it, and fired a superb shot over the head of the Bury keeper.

Shortly afterwards, Alix denied Bury with a good save, while at the other end of the field, George was denied by a fine save from the Bury keeper.

Trojans had the upper hand for the remainder of the half, and increased their lead on 26 minutes, when Mark headed in at the far post from a splendid corner taken by Jack. Shortly before the end of the half, Trojans again had a chance to further increase their lead, but unfortunately, Georges shot hit the post.

The second half saw Bury get themselves back into the game for a while, and the Trojans defence were under more pressure, but every Bury advance was closed down and dealt with by the back four. However, on 37 minutes, Bury equalised from a well-taken free kick.

Three minutes later, Jordan set off on a run, cutting through the Bury defence, and looked certain to score, but he was pulled down, and Trojans were awarded a penalty, despite Bury parents challenging the decision.  Charles stepped forward, and scored with a thundering shot. 3-2 to the Trojans.

On 47 minutes, Jordan put an excellent shot through to Jack on the right side of the field, who scored a superb goal, to give Trojans a 4-2 advantage.

It looked as if Trojans were going to cause a major upset, but four minutes before the final whistle, and against the run of play, Bury broke through the Trojan defence, and scored. Two minutes later, Bury grabbed the equaliser, after an unlucky bounce.

Trojans continued to fight until the final whistle, but just couldnt find the winning goal, and so the match finished four all, as did the return fixture earlier in the season.

Yet another terrific team performance with Bury, who are top of the league, lucky to come away a point. Each and every player was outstanding, and contributed to a highly entertaining game. Once again, Trojans excelled themselves against very strong opposition, and the performance prompted the Bury manager to ask why we are not one of the top two teams in the league. Something we often wonder ourselves!

Well done lads.
