The Raisin

I have peeled other grapes before
and delighted in their juicy flesh,
but I found the perfect one -
in a cluster on my neighbour's land -
dangling, left only to admire:

taut skin,
perfect curves,
exploding with life -
light would bounce off you,
creating a tiny halo;
and I peeled you with my mind
dreaming of your potential spirit.

Oh so de-vine,
the sunny summer days,
that wrinkle with time,
darkens your skin with wisdom,
and yet, you still retain your sweetness.
