ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
The International Horn Society has created a position for Regional Coordinator for Canada and has appointed Mr. George Lloyd of Cornwall, Ontario to the position. I have accepted his offer to be appointed the Area Representative for Ontario. Other area representatives are being sought and I hope to announce further appointments soon. So here it is, my attempt to bring hornplaying in Canada a presence on the web. Several years as a member of the International Horn Society has shown me that there is a need for greater promotion here in Canada. Blowing our own horn so to speak. I hope to recruit contributors from Universities and Symphony Orchestras from across the country. If you attend a Canadian University or are a hornplaying member of a Symphony, please send me something to print so that we can make this newsletter as interesting and informative as I know it can be. As part of our mandate with the IHS, I will include news and announcements from the IHS. A permanent part of this site will be links to all the university music departments I can find. I need input from horn players in these and any other programs. I have also included abbreviated reports of two recent International Horn Society conferences. I first attended the 29th IHS Conference held at Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY in 1997. I only spent two days there but it was enough to whet my appetite. My first full conference was the 30th Annual IHS Conference held in June of 1998 at the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts. The second article is from the 31st conference held at the University of Georgia in May of 1999. I was unable to attend the 32nd conference held in China but plan not to miss 2001 in Kalamazoo Michigan at Western Michigan University. More complete and personal versions of these accounts can be found on my personal webpage.
