US Copper Coinage

I live in and do most of my detecting in a part of the country that was not settled until the mid 1800's and I have not been fortunate enough to find coins from our country's earliest coinage such as Colonial and Bust coins.

My oldest US coin

1842 Large Cent

Large cents and half cents were among the first coins struck under the authority of the US Government. Large cents were struck every year from 1793 to 1857 with the exception of 1815 when a lack of copper prevented production. All were coined at the Philadelphia Mint. Below is nicer example of the US large cent.
