| Week 30 |
| The baby this week: The lanugo, or fine hair, covering baby begins to disappear. It is shed into the amniotic fluid and ingested by baby, eventually forming part of the meconium, the first bowel movement baby will have after birth. (OK I am finding this particular fact rather gross....ewwww!!) Lungs and digestive tract are nearly fully developed. Although the baby's lungs are developed enough to breathe air fairly efficiently, he or she would tire rapidly. During the next few weeks, my immunities will be transferred to the baby enabling him or her to fight off infections after birth! Baby now weighs around 3 lbs. and is about 16.8 inches from head to toe. Some ultrasound images will show baby yawning or even sucking it's thumb! Baby opens and shuts it's eyes, and researchers believe he/she can actually see now, though no one knows exactly how much he/she can make out. Baby's toenails are now growing!!! I am feeling different movements now from Baby. Less fluttering and nudging and more pronounced kicks and jabs and rolling head or butt under my ribs. It gets uncomfortable at times, but is a wonderful reassurance of life within! Mom this week: At this point my uterus is about 4 inches above my navel. Hormonal changes don't just affect my emotions; they also affect which foods I crave during pregnancy. I have found yourself thrashing about at night trying to find a comfortable sleeping position. This is inbetween the hourly bathroom pee trips and the other hourly TUMS grab, not to mention the restless legs! I'm lovin' night time!!!!! NOT! My mom and dad came for a quick visit this last weekend, and my mom was able to feel the baby moving. She was pretty excited over that. She also commented that I am "really looking pregnant now!" I said, let's hope so, we've only got 9 weeks left! It was so sweet, because she also brought a book, called Visiting The New Baby to read to Charlie. What a good grammie she is! Friday is our big ultrasound, right before the dreaded week 31 (when Amanda Joy was stillborn). I would appreciate your thoughts and prayers this week and next, to get through this tough time. I am a little anxious, but I know that God is in control and He has a great plan for us. Which hopefully includes bringing this lil one home alive and healthy!!! So please, say a prayer for me when you think of me! Thanks! That is this week's update, until the ultrasound! I will send out an update after it as well!!!!!! Anyone have any guesses on what sex the baby is? We are going to try to find out!!!! HUGS to all! Stephanie |
