Week 19
A Baby at 19 weeks
Back
Next
Hello! It is week 19 and we have our first ultrasound tomorrow!! I am so excited!

The Baby

Baby is now up to about 8 ounces. Previous lengths were measured
as head to rump, but now we start using head to toe measurements.
Using this method, your little one is almost 9 inches long The baby's
body growth is now catching up to his or her head.
Believe it or not, if the  baby is a girl, early ovaries contain early
follicles with early eggs.
My uterus is just barely below my belly button now.
Baby teeth have developed in the gums and the bud for permanent
teeth are just starting to form.
Baby is just starting to be aware of sounds outside the uterus,
and I may feel baby startle at unexpected noises.
During this week, Baby's skin is beginning
to develop into three separate layers, as a protective waxy coating
appears on the skin surface to protect against chapping.
The exterior layers of skin tissue develop and form
baby's one-of-a-kind fingerprints.
Amniotic fluid that surrounds  baby allows for the free
movement of the arms and legs and is also sometimes
swallowed to practice digestion.  Don't worry about the
waste that comes from this, my body replaces the amniotic
fluid every four hours.
Nerve cells important to taste, smell, hearing, sight, and touch
are developing into specialized areas of the brain.

Mom
I am feeling great. Hardly any nausea at all anymore, and I have more energy.
I've been having the urge to wash the baby clothes! I know it's a bit early,
but the urge is there just the same.
I feel lots of movements, but no one else can yet. Soon enough!
I have found that I am starting to get dizzy if I get up too fast or change positions
too fast. Gotta just slow down. Maybe it is preparing me for when my belly gets so huge
that I am unable to move fast!!!
I've been getting heartburn at night, as soon as I lay down, so Tums are my bedside
companion!
I am still craving Salsa! On burritos, chips, anything!
Wonder what that means!
I am looking forward to tomorrow's ultrasound. Will update again after that!
HUGS!
Stephanie
