Hope,
Inc. exists to eliminate all domestic violence through intervention,
counseling, support, and education while providing abused women and
their children a safe place to stay until they can put their lives
back together again.
We are unique to the Mineral Wells area because our mission is not
just to provide a temporary home for these women and their children,
but to empower them by giving them the tools they will need to break out of the cycle of abuse and teaching
them the skills they will need to become self-sufficient.
An
abused woman can call Hope, Inc. her home while we help her
determine and set the goals she wants to achieve in her life. Some of these goals might include:
obtaining government assistance, finding a job, being a better parent, having her own home,
completing her high school degree, and attending college.
Since 1983, Hope has been providing housing, as well as case
management, and individual counseling for abused women and their
children. Abused women can find the assistance they need to build a new
life for themselves and their children. They can obtain legal
assistance to file charges against their batterer, get a divorce, or
gain custody of their children.
In
the realm of help, hope reigns supreme because hope is the doorway
to change. We at Hope, Inc. are reaching through that doorway and
offering a helping
hand and extending that hope to others by providing shelter, legal
assistance, and
counseling.
All we
ask is that they are willing to take our hand and step through that doorway to a
happier, healthier future. The following poem was written by one of
our Hope Residents...

The Shelter of "Hope"
I sit here alone in this women's
shelter,
Right now my life feels so helter-skelter.
I have to be separated from the ones
I love,
So I look towards heaven, to the good
Lord above.
Right now things seem so dark and
bleak,
Peace and happiness are all that I
seek.
I don't like this feeling of living
in fear,
At times I break down and cry a river
of tears.
I think about my loved ones, from
whom I'm apart,
But they know how much I love them
with all my heart.
They tell me here that in time things
will get better,
For now, I'll put my thoughts in
poems and letters.
Right now I feel like I'm walking on
a long tight rope,
But believe me, I'm so thankful for
this shelter of "Hope".
