"The Sentiern Migrations: Alpha Aurigae to the Provident Worlds"

This fantasy fable of 'a techno–utopian innocence shattered by disillusion' sets to an eerily looming historical background a foreground of poignantly graced with the greater intrigue of ordinary with strangers, acquaintance, family, and historical persons, children, and the famous.

The diplomatic posting of Director to Migrations on Meridian, New Catherine, was traditionally held by a woman, and currently graced in the enigmatic character of former bio–geneticist, ethical philosopher, and artist, K. Marian Shan-Morgan, and who on the death of her predecessor the aquiline and long Sandena Se Corelle had accepted the appointment on a popular nomination.

Staring distantly East across the precipitous cradles of New Catherin's sumptuous arrays, Marion Morgan had earlier witness to the visions of May Kim Kane's' oceanic and refractory melee  The Corridors To Oracle, requiem to a cataclysm befalling the world at Catuvellaun, the descendants of ordinary greatness swept down in events that had long-cast a steepening shadow from the moment we first snatched the keys to Pandora.

Down at the other end of history, we find the solitary and precocious figure of 11year old prodigy, D. E. Johns, whose family had recently moved them from the wintry cottage in Norfolk down to the hedges of Somerset where Johns would later in life go on to write-up a blueprint to free for all time humanity's appointments with drudgery and toil.

These two form the book-ends for a series of dialogues in which popular media presenter, Jillian Fayne (of Pattern From Reginae) who turns down her chance of an interview with convicted pornographer Coream Joannas and instead acquires the programming rights to 10 hours of optical data from the Terria Ardine of a world which had once relected a teeming extravagance of recklessly jewelled foliaige and precious impudent organisms, is taken down into darkness; of Kay Santa-Laura, 'the girl who wanted to be first' to New Cathyrin; of Johansson and Ramirez, at 7 the youngest in their philosophy class; Janey, Rebecca and Renee all given parts in the background of Simians LIVE!, and Gene Kinberlaine and Raine de Serler excerpts from

From an historical perspective, The Disaster at Taiba-Cando, early in the 5th millennium marks a time it is said from which things could never be the same, , could not be ignored, Yet even a tragedy of such disproportionate scale can never entirely distract our attention from the preoccupations of daily intrigue. And, why should those intrigues be any less of significance? Events are to us just the backdrop to a singular story, where each of us plays at the centre of the action, and star of all moments.

But, are the events of 'a world and its people' of more or less moment than a steely and transfixing glance from a stranger, 'The Queen of Spades', that fleetingly assaults the hapless Dixon Edward Johns in the months leading up to the landmark publication of "Tumbling Dominoes"?

Meaning, I suppose, that incidents, and moments, have no intrinsic scale – the trivial may be as decisive, or consequential, as the grandiose; in the subjective realms of human psychology, it is equally the smallest of matters, disbursed side by side the momentous, that precipitate and inform our behaviour.

But, taken together inform a much longer and equally entrancing story, beginning with the Bio-Tech Renaissance of the 23rd Century, and the 700 year Alpha Migration to the world at the furthermost shores that would henceforth be known as New Cathyrin, capital to the dawning and far-cast republics of human society.

Purely perspective. For Johns, the decades ahead in which these events will take place are far more removed than mere lifetimes. For those in the 23rd century all this lay ahead; and up here, it is always 'today' – we never look round to find that 'the future' has arrived; life remains wistful and annoying, full of dreams and expensive mistakes.

To think, that wherever you were, and in every direction, scattering away to the edges of a 60 year void, there are 'others' like us, 'The Provident Worlds' were the pinpoints and beacons of night where people were living are not part of some cold and material future. They are simply the island savannas on which we have always made homes; we shall never become less like a people, only more so..

And, although we may never cross paths or convene in the flesh, the vast empty tracts in between us can never be wholly keep us apart , among all those at Santa Kala, or Vega, Yolande-Centauri, and indamarine from The Sentre at Reginae to the free ports of Arc-Angelene, you could look up and say …"there are …people up there"

"For, there are not those who are great … or some others that may come to greatness, and those who will not…! Here, …now… who may not be so great that we, in one moment, are not all lifted up in the truth… that so do we each of us hold, in faith and good reason, the welfare of all…?

Where in the finest of ordinary company one may be fittingly part of events, but not overwhelmed… For you and I do not need bear on our shoulders the fate of a world and its peoples. Enough that we take up the challenge of each very moment… to make something of it…

You see, there's the greatness…
…that a moment be ours to create, and justly deserved may you reap it's most excellent rewards"

"The Barrios of Santa Rosa"

An astonishing pilgrimage to the depths of subjective experience, the troubling but ultimately uplifting tale of mysterious and frightening power.

An innocent itinerary somewhere in the New World – and well South of the Border – becomes personal odyssey into the life and times of the phenomenal Barrio, a people having very little affiliation with 'our way of thinking', yet nowhere near different enough for us not to feel threatened..

Apparently living at the fringes unnoticed, a phenomena set to break out into mainstream awareness – the stark and persuasively chilling Santa Rosa Report provides more information than we might want to know – of a group whose chief fascination is with subjective reality – not passive observation, but a blatant and fearsome 'technology' that enables both a sharing of experience, and the tweaking of that which we take to be concrete and objective: reality.

But why would they do that? And why do they only do that? Was it just an enhancement technology – like steroids or infra-red night vision. Or is that just how we would

Feared and respected, there is, in the end, a lot more to the Barrio than appearance suggest – and who to know better that appearances might be deceptive
