Punya (pious virtuous deeds) is equally a burden to Athma as it forces Athma to take freely births to enjoy the fruits and thereby involving it to commit sins or pious deeds during that tenure of enjoyment and entangles Athma to further more births and deaths thereby creating infinity to bar eligibility to attain Mukthi just as same weight of gold or iron will be of the same force to pull a person to earth from flying in sky though Gold is a precious metal by its nature than iron. Renunciation of god of fruits of actions in favor of god will be the same weight of cotton which will not pull the man to earth but will uplift him or severe from here to fly easily.

If we surrender to God and renunciate even the fruits of pious deeds., We are freed from Maya binding us with a long rope of passion to this worldly desires. God can save man from sins only from that moment, he had surrendered to God and the man will have to face the consequences of his previous evil doings even though he had totally surrendered to god at present.
